Refuge is an ongoing work meant for installation. Each individual piece in the grouping is meant to be picked up by a viewer to keep. The viewer holds the piece in a pocket or in their palm. One can’t help but worry the glossy glaze like a worry stone as they hold it. After arriving home, the viewer places the individual piece upright on their desk or side table. The deeply layered glaze then acts as an inviting pool to hold the viewer. All the while each piece has a vibrantly material connection to the other individual pieces in the installation. The viewer cannot help but wonder about their own connections made to all the other viewers who hold similar pieces in their hands. The shape and glaze application for these pieces is inspired by Zoelle Nagib’s glasswork pictured.
